Why It's Never Too Late to Build Friendships

As we get older, life gets busy. Between work, family, and other responsibilities, making new friends can feel like a challenge. You might think that building new friendships is something that happens naturally when you're young, and that it’s too late to start now. But the truth is, it’s never too late to build meaningful connections with others.

Friendships are important at every stage of life, especially in adulthood. They provide support, joy, and a sense of belonging that can greatly improve our mental well-being. Having a strong social network can help reduce stress, increase happiness, and even improve your physical health. However, many adults find it difficult to create and maintain these connections, especially if they have autism, ADHD, or other social challenges.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and there’s something you can do about it. Our Over 30s Social Skills Workshop is designed specifically for adults who want to improve their social skills and build lasting friendships. Whether you’re looking to reconnect with others or form new bonds, this workshop offers practical tools and techniques to help you succeed socially.

The Importance of Social Connections in Adulthood

As we age, our social circles often shrink. Friends move away, change jobs, or simply lose touch over time. While it’s normal for social networks to evolve, it’s important to actively nurture relationships and seek out new connections. Strong social ties can help combat feelings of loneliness and isolation, which are increasingly common in today’s fast-paced world.

For adults with autism, ADHD, or other social challenges, navigating social situations can be particularly daunting. Understanding social cues, making small talk, or maintaining a conversation can feel overwhelming. This is where social skills training becomes essential. It’s not about changing who you are but equipping yourself with the skills needed to interact more comfortably and confidently with others.

How the Over 30s Social Skills Workshop Can Help

Our Over 30s Social Skills Workshop is based on the renowned PEERS® program, which is an evidence-based social skills intervention developed by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson at UCLA. The workshop is specifically adapted for adults over 30, focusing on real-world social interactions and the challenges that come with them.

In a supportive and non-judgmental environment, participants learn how to:

  • Start and maintain conversations with people they don't know

  • Enter and exit group conversations smoothly

  • Host and participate in social gatherings

  • Exchange contact details and follow up with potential new friends

The workshop uses role-playing, group discussions, and practical exercises to teach these skills. Participants also receive course notes, videos, and at-home exercises to reinforce what they’ve learned.

Our Over 30s Social Skills Workshop is here to help you on that journey. You’ll be joining a group of like-minded individuals who are all striving for the same goal: to build connections, gain confidence, and enjoy the benefits of lasting friendships.
